![]() Dr. Valerie Cooper Special Clinical Interest: Following dental school I completed a three-year residency program in prosthodontics at The Ohio State University. A prosthodontist is a specialist focused on bridges, crowns/caps, dental implants, dentures, partial dentures, teeth whitening, and veneers (www.prosthodontics.org). Most Satisfying Case: One patient came to OSU with several missing teeth and failing bridges. After a thorough exam, several underlying concerns were found which were causing the problems. Since cost was not the main concern, it would have been easiest to place crowns on all of his teeth, however a conservative approach was chosen to correct the underlying problems. We began by ensuring that decay and gum disease were under control. Once he was confident that bone loss and cavities were not going to occur, he had several root canals, some teeth removed, and braces placed to line the teeth up with the correct bite. Eight implants were placed in the areas where he was missing teeth. Finally it was my turn. I had coordinated the earlier treatment and now I placed the crowns, implant crowns, and implant bridges, completing his treatment and giving him a functional and beautiful smile. He was so happy on the day that I placed the crowns and bridges, it made all the years we worked together worth every minute. My Special Story: I grew up in Troy, Ohio. I have many fond memories of my parents, brothers, and sisters going to sporting events, and just enjoying growing up in a small town in Ohio. When it came time for my husband and I to pick where I should practice I looked at practicing in large cities. When we finally had to decide there was no question. We wanted to live in the same kind of life and family atmosphere that I had growing up. I am excited to be able to offer the same high-quality specialized treatment to the people of my home community as I would have to those in a large city. |
